KLA Corporation dominates semiconductor process control and metrology. While secular AI tailwinds drive demand for advanced node defect detection, current valuation implies extreme perpetual growth. We issue a Sell rating due to a severe dislocation between intrinsic value ($984) and the market price ($1,869), presenting a -47% downside risk without margin of safety.

Dominant market share in advanced metrology and inspection.
High capital intensity of advanced node defect detection.

Sell. Valuation severely disconnected from mature compounder fundamentals.
KLA Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, designs, manufactures, and markets process control, process-enabling, and yield management solutions for the semiconductor and related electronics industries worldwide. The company operates through three segments: Semiconductor Process Control; Specialty Semiconductor Process; and PCB and Component Inspection. It offers inspection and review tools to identify, locate, characterize, review, and analyze defects on various surfaces of patterned and unpatterned wafers; metrology systems to measure pattern dimensions, film thickness, film stress, layer-to-layer alignment, pattern placement, surface topography, and electro-optical properties for wafers; chemical process control equipment; wired and wireless sensor wafers and reticles; wafer defect inspection, review, and metrology systems; reticle inspection and metrology systems; wafer inspection and metrology systems; and semiconductor software solutions that provide run-time process control, defect excursion identification, process corrections, and defect classification to accelerate yield learning rates and reduce production risk. The company also provides etch, plasma dicing, deposition, and other wafer processing technologies and solutions for the semiconductor and microelectronics industry. In addition, it offers direct imaging, inspection, optical shaping, inkjet and additive printing, and computer-aided manufacturing and engineering solutions for the PCB market and inspection and metrology systems for quality control and yield improvement in advanced and traditional semiconductor packaging markets. The company was formerly known as KLA-Tencor Corporation and changed its name to KLA Corporation in July 2019. KLA Corporation was incorporated in 1975 and is headquartered in Milpitas, California.
A synchronized downturn in global WFE spending combined with strict export bans on advanced metrology tools to China severely contracts near-term revenue. Elevated R&D requirements for 2nm transitions crush operating leverage, forcing margins well below mid-cycle averages.
Dominant market share in advanced metrology and inspection.
High capital intensity of advanced node defect detection.
Deep integration into customer fabrication R&D.
Economic profit is supported when reported returns exceed the company cost-of-capital hurdle.

FCFF DCF remains positive at the base case: base FCFF $4.4B after capex $364.7M, with terminal value at 54.6% of enterprise value. No FCF cliff is projected unless capex/ or materially resets.
Uninterrupted AI supercycle drives sustained hyper-growth in process control intensity. Margins structurally step up, defying historical cyclicality.
If Year-1 revenue growth misses the 11% baseline, expect severe multiple compression. If operating margins hold >40%, near-term cyclical momentum persists.
If Year-1 revenue growth misses the 11% baseline, expect severe multiple compression. If operating margins hold >40%, near-term cyclical momentum persists.
Peak cyclical investment phase. Customers are heavily subsidizing fabrication expansion, artificially elevating near-term equipment demand.
AI-driven demand accelerates transition to advanced logic nodes and complex 3D packaging, disproportionately increasing process control intensity per wafer.
Foundry overcapacity leads to abrupt capex cuts, exposing the inherent cyclicality of semiconductor equipment spending.
Peak cyclical investment phase. Customers are heavily subsidizing fabrication expansion, artificially elevating near-term equipment demand.
Zero allocation. The -47% downside to fair value offers no margin of safety for long-term compounders.
Liquidate existing positions. The market is pricing in perfection without accounting for structural WFE cyclicality.
Value: Extreme overvaluation relative to normalized cash flows.
Momentum: Price supported by AI cyclical euphoria, vulnerable to capex deceleration.
Sell. KLAC is a high-quality franchise trading at a deeply irrational premium. A reverse DCF implying 23% perpetual growth confirms the total absence of a margin of safety. Investors should exit.
Upside case: Risk: High exposure to geopolitical export restrictions and industry down-cycles. Downside case: Value: Extreme overvaluation relative to normalized cash flows.

Sharp WFE downturn and China export restrictions crater near-term growth. Margins compress as R&D burden remains fixed during revenue contraction.
Complete restriction on all tier-1 process control equipment sales to Chinese foundries, eliminating a high-margin revenue vector.
Prolonged memory and foundry capex freeze delays 2nm and advanced packaging ramps, stalling KLA's growth trajectory.
Defect detection at angstrom levels demands exponentially higher R&D, structurally degrading peak operating margins below 35%.
The five developments that would weaken our investment case.
Cyclical retrenchment in global wafer fab equipment spending leads leading-edge foundries to cut tool purchases, reducing process diagnostic shipments and curtailing equipment deliveries.

Each lens answers a different valuation question. Only included lenses set Fair value; floors and diagnostics provide context.
Project SBC-adjusted EPS, discount each year's earnings at cost of equity, then add a Gordon-growth terminal value.
Project EPS through the explicit advantage period, fade growth as competition catches up, and discount the full stream at cost of equity.
Apply a terminal P/E to the dated forward EPS path, then discount that future share value back to the analysis date.
Convert the revenue and margin path into after-tax free cash flow, discount the annual per-share amounts and at , then adjust for signed per current share.
Add depreciation to net income, subtract maintenance capex, divide by diluted shares, and apply a normalized valuation multiple.
Multiply the peer median PEG by this stock's forecast growth to derive an implied forward P/E, then apply it to forward EPS.
Solve for the growth rate that makes the model value equal the report-date share price.
Cyclical WFE recovery materializes but normalizes into mature compounding. Terminal multiple reverts to historical averages of 20x, triggering a steep valuation correction.
